Aploogies from editor who has been 'busy' away and whatever other excuses you could think up but at last we have an update from the February 2015 retreat.
Sharon and I were really pleased with how retreat went this year. Definitely learnt the hard lesson that I need to add bedding into the needs list! Sorry about that slip up - entirely my fault and I was saved by the fabulous Sharon and Marilyn - thanks gals! I know some won’t agree but I thought that the food was improved (new kitchen staff) and I loved loved loved not having to cook for a number of days. We have booked the same space for next year.
Highlights for me were several. Of course there is the delight of being all together again and catching up with those I only get to see once a year. Just the shear wonderfulness of all us fellers together is truly marvellous. I am always amazed at the gorgeous felted delights people bring to share and that are made over the weekend. A year is a long time to wait until the next one!
This year was a little bit more magical with the fabulous impromptu concert by the Sweet Adeline’s! What a treat that was. Another group of women immersing themselves doing something that they love. I think given a few more Saturday nights we will be able to rival these girls maybe!???
The Saturday night show and tell was very inspiring and as for the resounding chorus that was had at the end - priceless stuff. I feel we are moving into a whole new tradition here - all begun with a sing a long with Arapera in 2014 - always good to exercise your lungs this way. Or maybe not - certainly we have the enthusiasm if not quite the talent. I still have a good giggle to myself when I remember the squashy faces - mainly of Bernice - who knew she possessed such a talent!? I was quite unaware myself.
As always a big thank you to our traders. It is so good of Kane Carding to travel all the way over and set up for Friday morning. Thanks Sara and Neil for making this effort - much appreciated. I hope that maybe next year Sara you will come and stay to join in our weekend!!?? Goldilocks and her Gotland - where would we be without it? Not to mention the cute cuddly toys (that’s the alpacas I’m talking about not just Yvonne Monk herself) and other delicious fibre. Another huge thanks to Dianne for collecting Tracey White’s goodies that she managed to send down to share! Next time Tracey you MUST come - really really missed you and it was not the same! Also thanks to Kay & Kathy for bringing more goodies for sale.
Thank you to those who travel from far away to join us. It is so good to see you every year. Just want you travellers to know that us Wellington Felters appreciate your special effort to join us. A very special thank you to Heike for coming all the way from Germany. Always good to felt “cheek to cheek”! It always makes retreat a little bit more special for me when you are with us.
