International Felt Day Event Report

Remember 1 October was International Felt Day?

On Ocober 1st 2011 a small group of Taranaki felters met at a local campsite to celebrate the 3rd International Day of Felt, inspired by Feltunited.com. We were probably one of the first groups in the world to get together on that date, with a mandate to felt in the third of the colour wheel from blue to red. Joining with the Eltham/Stratford Creative Fibre group’s dyeing workday we utilised the dye pots to dye a natural coloured felt vest, scarf and a hat in some gorgeous purple dye. We felted a variety of items including baby’s slippers, scarves, hat and mitts and learned how to make felt flowers. We even had a delicious purple lime cake for afternoon tea, which confused the palate of some who tried it whilst others were too scared to even taste it! A very enjoyable day was had by all who attended.
