Southern Hemisphere Feltmakers Convergence

                  

                                       Call for a Convener for 2013

Many of you will already know about the Southern Hemisphere Feltmakers Convergences that are held every two years in either Australia or NZ.

If you are not familiar with this event it is gathering of Feltmakers from our two countries who get together and share knowledge about our craft. There is no charge for workshops and participants pay only for the accommodation and food. Usually the tutors are from within the registrants and they volunteer their time.

The last Convergence was held in Masterton NZ in September 2009.

This year’s event is being held from 2^nd. October until the 7^th in Bunbury Western Australia.

The convergence does not alternate between the two countries as it is not run or organised by any one group.

 The time and place of the next event is determined by whoever goes to the current Convergence and puts their hand up saying we want it in our area and are prepared to organise it.

The last event in NZ happened because Jacqui Collins was among several NZ’rs attending  the 8^th Convergence in Beechworth Victoria Australia. Jacqui called an informal meeting of those people and said she would be prepared to convene the next event in NZ if there was enough support. She put out a call to all NZ Felters for people to volunteer to be on a committee and so it all happened.

NZ has only had three convergences here and as the last one was such a success it would be great if we could have it in 2013. There is already money in an account, which was surplus from the Masterton event.

All that is needed is for someone willing to be the convener  and a message can then be sent to Bunbury that NZ will host the next one.

There are people who were on the last committee who are willing to advise and help and some also prepared to be on a committee again but the crucial thing is someone is needed to be the overall organiser.
