Visitors to NZ Write for information
Hello Felters;
My wife Cholpon and I plan on visiting New Zealand In February 2020. We are felters. gathering sheep wool from local farmers where we live in Gig Harbor, Washington State USA. We go through the process to make felted hats, scarves, tunics, blouses and dresses. For the past 15 years we have attended art shows along the pacific coast including Canada and a number of shows in the mid west.
Cholpon is originally from Kyrgyzstan and grew up making items from sheep wool. Now she is carry’s out the family tradition of designing and making wool items for the US market.
In February of 2020 we would like to travel to New Zealand for a month to celebrate our wedding anniversary and learn what we can about New Zealand’s sheep farms and the Felting arts and artist.
We would appreciate any help as to where to go to see felt artist at work, places to stay, and to sheep farms.
You reply would be greatly appreciated
Respectfully
Jon Ortgiesen/Cholpon Djumabaeva

3 ladies enjoyed this class in Stratford last weekend and late last year a group of 11 felters in Masterton also had a great time with design and colour creating their scarves.
I'm travelling in the South Island soon and there are a couple of workshops happening.
If you'd like to join in one of them, there is one in Hokitika on 28 Feb and one in Mosgiel on 2nd March.
There is also interest in Timaru, which would have to be around 11/12 March, but please contact me if you're interested. Via contact the Conact by email link to the right of the page beneath the Editor..

it seems email has been disabled on the blog
sorry that you no longer receive emails when new posts are up.
This is completely uncontrollable by me, it's from the makers of blogspot. Everyone is complaining. I have now found I can add emails and so just spent more than half an hour trying to figure this out and adding dozens of email addresses, after spending mukch time last week figuring out how to do and doing a trial with 10 addresses of feltmakers I know.
Today I find, after said addition of dozens of email addresses, I MAY ONLY have 10 email addresses. So sorry, so frustrating!
Please just keep an eye on the blog for new info, I'll hopefully get some stories up soon, I've been super busy with Creative Fibre Taranaki retreat and exhibition and market.
Check out the fabulous exhibition at the Percy Thomson Gallery Stratford, http://www.percythomsongallery.org.nz/
